Fall Clearance Calculator

A harness only saves you if there's room to fall. This is the number most people get wrong: the minimum clear distance below your anchor before you hit something.

Your setup

Lanyard length (m) Energy absorber extension (m) Height, D-ring to feet (m) Safety margin (m) Anchor above D-ring? (m above = 0)
Read this bit: anchoring at foot level can double your free fall and MOST lanyards aren't rated for it - anchor above the D-ring wherever possible. Verify against AS/NZS 1891 and the manufacturer's data for YOUR harness, lanyard and absorber; swing fall adds distance this calculator doesn't. If clearance isn't there, change the system - rated anchor point higher, retractable (SRL), or work positioning instead.
