SWMS review — read against the work actually being done

A SWMS is not a form. It is a description of how the work will actually be done, and most of the ones handed up on site do not describe the job in front of them.

$199 + GST per SWMS — minimum five

Who this is for

  • Builders receiving subcontractor SWMS they have to accept or reject.
  • Subcontractors whose SWMS keep getting knocked back.
  • Project teams standardising what "acceptable" means across trades.
  • Anyone who has downloaded a generic template and suspects it will not hold up.

The problem it solves

The common failures are consistent: steps written so broadly they describe no particular job; hazards listed without the controls that match them; high-risk construction work not identified where it plainly applies; controls that name a hierarchy level but not an actual control; and nothing site-specific at all. None of that is visible from a signature on the front page.

What Obras does

  • Read the steps against the work, in the order the work happens.
  • Check hazards are identified at the step where they arise, not gathered in a list at the end.
  • Check controls follow the hierarchy and name something real.
  • Check high-risk construction work is identified where it applies.
  • Check consultation, review and sign-on sections are usable rather than decorative.
  • Check the document is specific to a site rather than to an industry.

What you receive

  • A marked-up review of each SWMS with what is missing and why it matters.
  • A short, plain statement of whether it is fit to work from as written.
  • Where you want it, a rewritten controlled Obras SWMS for that activity.

What happens next

Send the SWMS you want reviewed and tell us the job they relate to. Minimum five per engagement, which is usually a trade package rather than a single document.

Where we work. Standard service area: Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane, Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast. Outside this area, contact Obras for availability and a tailored quote — additional travel and site attendance costs may apply.

What Obras does not do. We do not give legal advice, and we do not certify or guarantee compliance — nobody honestly can. Your officers keep every duty under the WHS Act. Engagements are subject to an agreed written scope and terms. All professional-service prices exclude GST unless expressly stated otherwise.
