Is that defect actually closed?

Every job carries a defect list where half the closed items are not closed — they are fixed, unphotographed, unverified, and they all come back at handover with the client standing there. This runs fourteen checks and tells you whether this one will survive re-inspection.

This is not an approval. A green result means nothing on this list is outstanding — it is not a sign-off, a permit, an engineering release or a legal determination. The decision to proceed belongs to the competent person responsible for the work, using the site’s own hold points and approvals.

Questions

What is the difference between fixed and closed?

Fixed is the work. Closed is the work plus the evidence: the before photo, the after photo, the re-inspection by someone other than the person who did it, any required test certificate, and a signed dated entry in the register. Most reopened defects were fixed and never closed.

Why must someone other than the rectifier re-inspect it?

Because the person who did the work is the worst-placed person to judge it, and at handover the client will not accept their word for it. This is the single most common reason a defect reopens.

Can I mark items N/A?

Yes. A scratched skirting does not need an engineer or a flood test. N/A is treated as not applicable rather than as a pass and is not counted against you.

Does a green result mean the defect is signed off?

No. It means nothing on this list is outstanding. The sign-off is the entry in your own register by the person authorised to make it.

Is anything uploaded?

No. It stays in your browser on your device. Print the result if you want it on the file.

One defect. Now do it across nine hundred.

At handover the argument is never about whether the work was done — it is about whether you can prove it. The paid system holds the evidence against every item automatically, scanned from the QR band on the document itself.
