How to use your Obras Onsite documents

From download to site-ready in a few minutes. Here's the simple process.

1

Buy & download

After your purchase clears, you get an instant download - every document as an editable Microsoft Word (.docx) file plus a print-ready PDF.

2

Open the Word file

Open the .docx in Microsoft Word (or Google Docs / free LibreOffice). The PDF is just for printing - do your editing in the Word file.

3

Add your logo

Up the top of every page there's a "[ YOUR COMPANY LOGO ]" box. Click it, delete the placeholder text, then Insert > Pictures and drop your logo in. It now reads as your document, with a small Obras Onsite credit in the footer.

4

Fill in the grey fields

Every grey italic [field] is a fill-in - company name, site address, dates, names, plant. Click and type over them.

5

Edit it to suit your job

This is the important one. The job steps, hazards and controls are a professional starting point - edit them so they match the actual work, plant, people and conditions on your site. Add anything specific, remove what doesn't apply.

6

Get it reviewed & signed off

Have a competent person (and ideally a qualified WHS professional) review the finished document and sign it off before anyone works to it.

7

Print, sign on & keep it on site

Print the final version. For a SWMS, every worker must read and sign on before high-risk work starts. Keep the current copy on site and available.

8

Review when things change

Review and update the document whenever the work, site, plant or workers change, after any incident or near miss, or when the law changes.

Handy tips: Keep a clean master copy and "Save As" a new one for each job. To swap the logo, right-click the placeholder and choose Change Picture. Colour-coded risk ratings (green/amber/orange/red) are already set - just adjust the wording to your job.
Important: Obras Onsite documents are a starting-point template only. You are responsible for making each one appropriate to your specific workplace, tasks, plant and conditions, and for having it reviewed and signed off by a competent person before use. They don't replace professional WHS advice.
